AI search & digital marketing

Getting your business cited in AI answers, not just ranked in a list of links, with targets agreed up front.

01Search

More of your customers now ask ChatGPT, Perplexity or Google’s AI Overviews and take the answer they’re given, without scrolling a list of links. We make sure that answer includes you. That means generative and answer engine optimisation (GEO and AEO), built on the technical SEO that search engines and AI tools both depend on, with local search, paid advertising and content run alongside. It’s the same targets-first programme behind our SEO case study, where we agreed specific monthly targets with the client before any work started rather than promising vague growth.

An AI assistant writes one answer and cites a handful of sources. The work is making your business one of them:

  • Answer-first pages. Each page opens with a direct, quotable answer to the question it exists for, then the detail. That’s the passage an AI lifts.
  • Facts a model can repeat. Specific services, prices, locations, dates and figures, stated plainly and the same way everywhere, not buried in marketing copy.
  • Structured data. Organization, LocalBusiness, Service, FAQ and Article schema, so machines read what a page is as well as what it says.
  • One consistent identity. The same name, address, phone and description across your site, Google Business Profile, directories and social profiles, so a model is confident they’re all you.
  • Crawlers let in on purpose. robots.txt and an llms.txt that welcome the crawlers behind ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude and Google, rather than blocking them by accident.
  • Mentions beyond your own site. AI answers lean on reviews, directories, press and industry lists, so we work on where you’re mentioned as well as what you publish.

This site is built the same way: structured data on every page, question-led FAQs, and an llms.txt for AI crawlers.

Local search, specifically

For a business that lives on being found nearby, the three results above the map are effectively the whole page, and increasingly they’re what an AI assistant reads out when someone asks for a recommendation. Ranking there is a different job to ranking a page, and it’s mostly maintenance:

  • Claiming and completing the Google Business Profile, then keeping it complete
  • Citations and directory listings that agree with each other on name, address and phone. Inconsistency is the usual reason a listing underperforms
  • Replying to reviews, because an unanswered review is a signal too
  • Photos, offers and posts often enough that the listing reads as live rather than abandoned

What we won’t promise

No one can guarantee a first-page ranking or a mention in ChatGPT. An agency that does is either guessing or has a definition of success it hasn’t shown you. What we do instead:

  • Targets agreed before the work starts, specific and measurable, sized against your actual starting position and how competitive the questions are.
  • Reporting against those targets, not a list of tasks completed. Activity is easy to produce and tells you nothing.
  • A straight answer when something isn’t working. Some questions aren’t worth the budget it would take to win them; some traffic problems are really conversion problems and a campaign won’t fix them.

Where the fix turns out to be structural rather than promotional, like a site splitting its own search value across near-duplicate pages or one too slow to hold the traffic it earns, that’s web & app development work, and we’ll say so rather than sell you a retainer.

What's included

How we scope this

Generative engine optimisation (GEO)

Making your pages the source ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google's AI Overviews quote: self-contained answers, specific facts stated once and consistently, and the signals that let a model tell your business apart from the next one.

Answer engine optimisation (AEO)

Question-led pages, FAQ structure and schema markup, so featured snippets, voice assistants and AI answers can lift a direct answer from your site and credit you for it.

Technical SEO foundations

Crawlable, fast, well-structured pages, merged where near-duplicates split their value, with robots.txt and llms.txt set up to let AI crawlers in. An answer engine can't cite a page it can't read.

Local search

Google Business Profile, citations and reviews: the listing that Maps, the local pack and AI assistants all draw on when someone asks for a business nearby.

Paid ads, social & email

Google and Facebook Ads built around a specific conversion goal, with social and email run as part of the same plan, not as separate accounts somebody checks once a week.

Reporting against agreed targets

Specific targets set before the work starts and reported against every month: leads, traffic, rankings, and how often AI assistants mention you for the questions that matter.

How we work

The process, in order

  1. 01

    Audit

We review your site, rankings and traffic, and ask ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google what they currently say about you and your competitors, so the plan starts from what's actually happening.

  2. 02

    Strategy

A plan built around the questions your customers ask, where the answers come from today and which ones are worth winning, with targets agreed with you up front.

  3. 03

    Execute

Structural fixes, answer-first content, schema markup, listings and paid campaigns run together, not one after another.

  4. 04

    Report

Regular reporting against the targets we agreed at the start, including AI citations, not a summary of activity for its own sake.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between SEO, GEO and AEO?
SEO gets a page ranked in search results. AEO structures content so a search engine or voice assistant can lift a direct answer from it. GEO makes your business the source that generative AI tools like ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google’s AI Overviews cite when they write an answer. Each builds on the one before it: an AI can only cite a page it can crawl and trust, so SEO becomes the foundation rather than the whole job.
Can you guarantee ChatGPT will recommend us, or a first-page ranking?
No, and nobody honestly can. AI answers change from one question to the next, and rankings move. We agree specific, measurable targets with you up front instead and report against those. See our SEO case study for what that looked like for one client.
Do we still need SEO if people are asking AI instead?
Yes. AI search tools find their sources through search indexes and crawlers, so a page that’s slow, blocked or badly structured is invisible to them too. What changes is the goal: being the answer that gets quoted, not only a link that gets clicked.
Do you handle paid ads too?
Yes. Google and Facebook Ads run alongside the search work, not as a separate, disconnected service.
Can you work with our existing site, or do we need a rebuild?
We review what’s live first. Often the fix is restructuring what’s already there. See web & app development if a rebuild does turn out to be the right call.
